Unless you want to purchase modified boxes, include a windows box on
your myth network and hope and pray that directv does not decide to kill
your box then I would avoid any satellite provider. If satellite is your
only choice, then rent one of their dvr's and live with the piece of
junk that they are. If you can subscribe to cable and the cable company
does not scramble everything other than the locals (most scramble
everything they can by law) then you can use the stb provided by the
cable company to record over firewire whatever channels are in the
clear. Lastly and probably best, buy an antenna, put it up and use a HD
capture device like a HDHomeRun or PCHD card. The choices for homebrew
HD recordings are slim and the industry is trying hard to make sure that
we have no choices at all other than renting a STB from them.
