you have to run it as root ... or at least with "sudo" before the
 command:
"sudo make menuconfig"
"sudo make"
"sudo make install"

simple said: whenever you see on ubuntu something like "permission
denied", use "sudo"

Ok,  I think I have some success, but I am not sure.  I did the sudo modprobe -l but I did not see modprob cx2388.  I don't know if I should post all the stuff from the sudo command, but I am still lost.
