This is NOT a MythTV problem.

When you do repost you will have to state what kind of hardware
you're using that it doesn't need a boot-loader.
One might interpret your comments to mean "GRUB is only required on
PCs that dual-boot between Linux & Windows, and GRUB is not required
on PCs that boot only Linux" - this is NOT the case.
The BIOS of conventional PCs (such as my old x86 hardware) reads the
first sector of the hard-drive on start-up. As I understand it, the
BIOS loads this straight into RAM & executes it; the boot-loader sits
in this section and is a program which knows where to look for the
kernel & os filesystems.
