[mythtv-users] Diskless

One trick to make diskless mythstations -- you can buy adapters that plug
an compact flash card into an IDE or laptop mini-IDE adapter for just a
few bucks on eBay. And cards are cheap as you know. This will then
boot on any computer, even computers without ethernet boot or with
unusual ethernet cards.

You might want to just put the kernel and initrd onto the flash card.
You can use the flash card like a disk, it will be slower than a hard disk
to read but instantaneous to seek. However, you may prefer to put some
things in ramdisk because flash does have a limited number of read/write
cycles. There are linux distros that claim to work from flash, though
they are mostly the small ones.

You could build your distro on the flash card if you want (1gb flash cards
are very cheap) and then, after getting it all working, copy it to
another machine to NFS mount the filesystems you don't want locally.
