Wow, i'm finding out about all sorts of gadgets I did not know existed!
But this will not really help me. I would have to have the RF receiver 
outside the TV stand, and (an) IR blaster inside. I really think that 
there is an easier way, but I have to find it.

All of this knowledge coming out, hints to me that there is a need for a 
wiki page...
