The system is mounted as NFS.

Essentially, you need to compile your Ethernet driver, TCP/IP protocol 
stack, NFS and root NFS support into the the kernel. The rest of the 
kernel drivers can be modules that are part of your NFS partition. Since 
there is not initrd, there is no RAM image.
