I keep pressing W and nothing happens, just some messages in the upper left part of the screen: 4x3, 16x9, stretch, fill, etc., but video remains the same.

I enable deinterlacer and the video looks better but still it is like ghostly and slow.
Is there anything I should do to increase the video quality???

W toogles aspect ratio modes.
It seems like your hardware is more than enough, what deinterlacin algorithm do you use, kerneldeint is best in my opinion.
Use standard decoder ffmpeg, this and deinterlacing is under settings, tv, playback or similar.
If you playback your videofiles with mplayer or vlc do they also have problem ?

Finally, I could installed MythTV in my system.
My specs are:
Machine: Dell Inspiron 6400
Processor: Intel Core Duo 1.83 Ghz
RAM: 1 GB
HDD: 80 GB
Video: ATI Mobility X1300
Display: 1280 x 800
Distro: Ubuntu Edgy
Myth version: the one bundled with Ubuntu Edgy.
Tuner: Hauppauge PVR-USB2
Same machine it's the BE & FE
I don't think it is underpowered if I only use it for SD. The problem is that when I watch Live TV, video seems interlaced and very slow, audio is fine.
When I watch a recorded show, video is stil interlaced, slow…. and jitter audio.
Another problem is that I'd like to watch TV (live or recorded) in 4x3 mode, with vertical lines in left & right sides, and not the complete screen (1280x800 = 16x10 mode). Is it possible??
