That's where I looked first. /etc/modprobe.d/aliases says at the top  
"does not need to be modified", which is a little confusing to me,  
and "char-major-81" which to my mind should be IVTV, is "videodev",  
which seems a bit strange.

Anyway, I tried /etc/modprobe.d/aliases again and it worked. Perhaps  
I forgot to do a modules-update the first time?

Sure wish everyone would initialize stuff the same way, and that  
HogPaws would quit using whatever tuners they find in the dumpster.
