Both those links are wrong in their assumption that video tearing has
anything to do with the difference between the cards. I saw tearing
with my 5200 and upgraded to the 6200 to try and get rid of it. Sadly,
no dice. It seems the HD tearing issue has been solved (dare I say
that?) with the 9xxx series drivers and the "UseEvents" option.
What is true is what Kevin said, that only the 5xxx series cards
support the color OSD hack when using XvMC. This should not be an
issue in the future if the OpenGL rendering work being done in the
mythtv-vid branch works out and gets merged for release. When this
will happen, and if it will allow something like a 6200TC to process
mpeg2 1080i in the GPU we will have to wait and see.
