The problem (as you point out) is that this feature makes sense for a
single frontend system, however if I'm watching something in one
room, I don't want to be prompted that some recording is starting and
someone in the other room might want to watch it. You'd have to start
associating recordings with the frontend that requested them and only
alert that frontend when a program is about to start.
However, I can't imagine any of this ever getting implemented since
none of the developers use LiveTV for more than testing tuners.

To the original poster, you may find that using recordings will fit
your lifestyle better (as I have). The whole idea of a PVR is that
your personal time is no longer dictated by programming executives.
Set your programs to record and get to the TV when it's convenient
for you. All your nightly programs will be there waiting for you.
Also, if you watch it after the actual start time, you gain much more
of your time back by not having to sit through commercials. (Very
often, without even touching the remote.) Your time is too important
to be controlled by the TV and wasted by commercials. This is why
none of the developers watch LiveTV. They're too busy writing code! :)
