Thinking about this further:

This is a CamCorder. After you subtract the cost of the optics, the 3- 
chip imaging block, the hard drive, the battery and the profit margin  
it means there is a 1080i encoder in there that's probably  
wholesaling for $200 or less.

Eventually that chip or chipset will find its way into other products.

I'd guess it means you will be able to buy a component-input 1080i  
encoder, probably on a PCI-Express card, for $400 or less.

Let's just hope it gets to market before some idiot makes it honor  
some sort of broadcast flag :-)
