This has come up *many* times. You would lose the ability to pause,
rewind etc. You would essentially have converted your PVR into a TV
set, somewhat similar to converting your Mercedes convertible into a
planter.
Why not just feed the signal directly into your TV set, if you are
using a computer-typemonitor you could use a program designed to
"just watch", like xawtv or mplayer, depending on what type of
capture card you are using.
But really there is absolutely no problem with just letting it
record. The live recordings will be automatically expired if the
space is needed for a scheduled recording, and as you pointed out you
can specify how much space to keep empty if you need to do that for
psychological reasons :-)
