I have found the feature to be hit and miss.
However, I do like the fact that my 30 second skip button never
goes away because of a brownout. This was a big Tivo-annoyance of mine.
A 30 skip button (coupled with the instant replay button) does
a nice job of minimizing the impact of commercials while not being
subject to local signal quirks.

What's time sensitive anymore? Not much.
The whole point of a PVR is that it picks up stuff without you
being aware that it had been aired. It's just a matter of setting up
your recording rules right.
MythTV even has a nice feature that shows you what DIDN'T get
recored so you can figure out what you need to tweak with your rules.
