We may be talking apples and oranges. Try this:
* Set deinterlacing to Bob. Turn OpenGL vertical sync off in
mythfrontend. Turn XVideo texture sync to vblank on in nvidia-settings.
* Connect the computer to the 1080p port. (My Westinghouse 47" only
has 1080p ports, but this also worked on my former 37" using said
1080p DVI port.)
* Restart X and mythfrontend with both 1080p and 1080i modeline. I use
ModeLine "1920x1080-59.94p" 148.4 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080
1082 1088 1125
ModeLine "1920x1080-59.94i" 74.2 1920 1960 2016 2200 1080
1082 1088 1125 interlace
* Look for scenes in 1080i content where the camera pans. My personal
benchmark is "HD Traveler: New York City," a Discovery HD
documentary, starting about two minutes in. Start right after the
guy passing pastrami sandwiches over a counter, then pay attention
to the living room-in-apartment, skyline-behind-Central Park, and
Times Square scenes.
1080i = Quite acceptable, but . . .
1080p = Buttery-smooth fluid motion. What I've previously described as
"*better* than anything a settop box can produce." This makes sense;
after all, Bob doubles the framerate.
