I've seen it too Dave.  I have a different LCD than you, mine's
actually a VFD, but it's 16x2.  It's because of the progress bar as
other's mentioned.

In addition, I think I'd rather seen an option to scroll things that
take up more than the width instead of splitting it up to multiple
"screens".  For example, it'll show the network, then the show title,
and the episode title.  If any of those are longer than 16 characters,
it'll present the rest on the next "screen".  I'd rather it only do
screen changes when it's presenting different information and
scrolling when something is too long.
