Hi
It looks like ALSA support the Cmedia CMI8738 soundcard
(http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=C-Media&card=.&chip=CMI8338%2C+CMI8738%2C+CMI8768&module=cmipci).
You can get info about the module with this command /sbin/modinfo
snd-cmipci or find the ALSA-Configuration.txt document in the the ALSA
source. In the ALSA-Configuration.txt you get information about module
options. It looks for me that the SDIF port only works for the model
033 only. Check also out the Alsa bug reporting webpage about this
card

soft_ac3 - Software-conversion of raw SPDIF packets (model 033 only)
(default = 1)

This module supports autoprobe and multiple cards.
The power-management is supported.
