Of course, the real issue here is that anyone who is intimate enough  
with the code to implement something more efficient without a lot of  
trouble has no interest in using LiveTV or browsing for stuff to  
watch so it always falls to the bottom of the to do list if it even  
makes it on there at all. When I'm looking for new stuff to watch, I  
generally use search strings or browse by genre. Certainly not by  
channel. Maybe a way to toggle between the EPG and the currently  
selected channel's search list would be enough to satisfy everyone's  
needs.
