[mythtv-users] Fast Forwarding Slow on USB hard drives

Hello.

I have an ubuntu feisty mythtv setup on a core 2 duo backend/frontend combo.
My videos folder is on an external USB 2.0 hard drive (it's a seagate 500GB
IDE Drive inside an external caddy)

When I fast forward at 3x, it works great, but any steps above that (such as
5x) do not work. The video appears to freeze for about 5-10 seconds, then
about one second is "fast forwarded" before it freezes again for 5-10
seconds, this keeps happening until I hit pause or the main menu button. I
am able to do the skipping forward like 1 minute (or whatever my settings
might be). Now when I take the same hard drive and put it inside the
computer, fast forwarding works just fine. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. The video files are highly compressed xvid's.

Also, I have mpeg 2 recordings on the same drive, and when I try to play one
of them, the same issue arises.

Any ideas?
-Thanks
-Steve
