Using 3 ATI cards myself at the moment (Radeon 9000 Pro, Radeon
9100IGP and Radeon 9700 Mobile in my laptop), I would caveat that
statement - if you are using HDTV or want to use a latest generation
card, avoid ATI cards and the fglrx closed-source driver and go with a
FX5200 from nVidia.

If you are using watching standard definition TV and have an older ATI
card, the OSS radeon driver works perfectly well and supports OpenGL.
On my primary frontend, I use a homebuilt VGA->RGB SCART cable
(1024x576 res) with the 9000 Pro card. On another frontend, I run at
1440x900, again with no problem. Two other machines use nVidia 4200
and 5200 series cards.
