I don't use Ubuntu, but Gnome is a Desktop, not a window manager.
Several window managers can be used with Gnome. I THINK Ubuntu uses
MetaCity by default, but I'm not positive.

"Focus" refers to which window accepts input from the mouse (or KB, or
other input device) and the usual setting is "click to focus".

Actually Myth is generally configured to not use a mouse at all, the
remote control or KB just moves the on-screen cursor.

Does your mouse behave properly in the other windows? Have you clicked
the main mouse button in the Myth window?

You might close out of X entirely, and restart it, or even reboot the
machine.
