Apologies to Craig, I just joined the list and don't have your original post. I will say that I went with the "dvico fusion mce remote control and usb ir receiver" (actually, I got 2 of 'em... I've got two frontends), and it works great.

In case this helps anyone, I run mythtv on centos boxes (one's a centos 4.3 box, the other's at v5) using the ATrpms. With lirc-0.8.2-68.el5, I stick the following in /etc/sysconfig/lircd:
LIRCD_OPTIONS="--driver dvico --device=/dev/hiddev0"
I use my harmony remotes to send the dvico signals, and everything works fine.
