[mythtv-users] Thanks from an impressed user

I tried MythTv for the first time yesterday and I was very, very
impressed. I had read good things about MythTV before, but I was still
somewhat shocked by all the things it can do. I find the user
interface much better than any of the tuner/DVR boxes that I have seen
- I've had the misfortune of seeing some truly bad ones.

I'm no newbie with Linux and I found the installation on Fedora easy -
one yum command, one sql script, then follow the menus. I can see how
it might be a problem for a lot of people, though.

I used to be perfectly happy with an old TV set, which I did not use
very much, until the housing company did something to the antenna
system in the apartment building where I live. It was allegedly in
order to improve reception of digital tv, and, in the process, it
fudged up the analog signal pretty severely. I put up with the very
noisy analog signal for a year, then finally gave up and got a
USB-attached digital tuner for the laptop. It's now two months to the
end of analog broadcasts here in Finland. Did not want to get a
separate tuner/DVR box, since if tv was going to be digital, I wanted
to access the bits with my computer. It's great to be able to
transcode recordings into whatever format I like. And no more
commercials!

Anyways, thanks to all the developers and contributors!

Mikko
