Thanks everyone who replied
Some very good information and options. I will have to see if I can
convince my better half that the world won't end without Media Player
and try out a few of these others.
In the meantime I will definitely try ffdshow and see what happens. I am
not to eager to put a generic codec pack on the machine as I have had
issues in the past. If all else fails I will install PowerDVD or
PowerCinema to get whatever they install
