You're wasting your time. If the data link was the only thing connecting the two
buildings, which I suspect is what most readers thought, the advice you have
been offered so far is good.
However, if you have a conduit "pretty full" of other cables the safety of your
data cable is moot. What do you think lightning is going to do if it finds a
whole lot of copper running between both buildings?
If you have to run your data cable, do it in another conduit which runs via a
completely separate route between the two buildings. Regardless of the
twisted-pair theory, you shouldn't be running power and data in the same conduit
anyway. (It breaks fire regs in the UK. YMMV.) That will also enable you to run
fiber the whole length. And also to plan a route in and out of the termination
rooms without too sharp bends. Fiber don't like bends.
If you get struck by lightning, however, I think you'll find the data link would
be the only thing that survives of either building. As a previous writer said,
you'd have much bigger problems.
