[mythtv-users] Duplicate matching doesn't seem to work

I understand the logic that if there is no subtitle and no description then it must assume they are different episodes but if they have different descriptions but just each have a blank subtitle surely it would make sense to ignore the fact there are no subtitles and check the descriptions.

Thanks for your very quick reply, I appreciate your help.

No, I got it the first time. :)

Yes, that's correct. Again, in the absence of any description, MythTV
will assume that they may, in fact, be different episodes, and record
both. For example, in my lineup, The Daily Show and The Colbert
Report *never* have descriptions, even for new airings. Clearly, this
is a deficiency in the guide data, so Myth assumes, in the absence of
info to the contrary, that the episodes may in fact be different, and
records them both, regardless of any duplicate detection settings.

Not that I'm personally aware of, though I admit I've never actually
gone looking for one. Certainly that thread you identified suggests
it's possible, though (however, there is no per-recording option... I
just checked mythweb, and I see nothing relevant).

Brett.
