[mythtv-users] How to play music/videos (mythvideo/mythmusic) on remote mythfrontend

Hi,

I have three Mythfrontends, one running on the same box with the
backend, and two are remote frontends in other rooms. I always used
these two remote frontends for watching recorded shows, not for ripped
DVDs or music.

I installed today mythplugins (mythvideo and mythmusic) because I
wanted to try to watch a movie with MythVideo, but I was surprised
that I am not able to do it. MythVideo could not find movies.

I checked the logs and found that mythfrontend was trying play files
from the local path?? Hmmm, I thought that is "maybe logical" but how
I play remote videos? I am using Internal player on these frontends.

I started mythfrontend without "-p" to connect to Myth's UPnP server,
because it UPnP sounds promising. I have no experience with UPnP, but
PlugAndPlay sounds good :).

Log file gives me:
2007-11-10 23:11:25.008 Using runtime prefix = /usr
2007-11-10 23:11:28.135 MythXMLClient::GetConnectionInfo Failed -
(606) Action Not Authorized
2007-11-10 23:11:28.135 Access Denied for mythbox: MythTV AV Media Server
2007-11-10 23:11:33.459 Database Hostname: 192.168.1.100

although the pin code is correct. mythfrontend starts when I enter the
correct pin code but I see the above message in the log. If I enter
the wrong one, it wont start and I just see the message "Action Not
Authorized" in the window below the login box. What does "not
authorized" mean in this case? Do I have to turn on something else? Or
am I looking at totally wrong place?

Well ... I am long time MythTv user, but there are some part of MythTv
which I neved used. This is the one. How can I play videos (not
recordings) and music from remote mythbackend on my remote
mythfrontend? I am obviously doing something wrong.

I could of course share the video directory with nfs/samba in the
network, but I was convinced that mythtv can stream the videos and
music to a remote mythfrontend like streaming recordings. I know that
MythStream exists (I never tried it), but I thought that MythTv can do
it with its "official" plugins.

Thanks

M.
