Me too.

As a comparison, I converted from FC3 to gentoo and perceived 10-15%
better performance on my low-end frontend (P3 500 driving HDTV). Gentoo
lets you rebuild everything for *your* architecture (it's called
"Changing the CHOST", and it is easy to configure, just takes time to
run). You also tailor the builds of packages (with "USE flags") for your
system and set of packages. Fairly easy, nice. You can manage cruft
easily--and remove it or keep it off.

I got burned (or so it feels with the EOL of FC3 then FC4. Gentoo has a
continual-stream model, so no EOLing.

I now run the svn on my personal desktop and 0.20 on my "production"
BE/FE machines. Easy-peasy.
