There are going to be set-top boxes that can downconvert HD to SD for  
quite a while to come, so recording HD at SD resolution is one  
option.  Not a very good one, maybe, but a lot of us still have SD  
sets anyway.  I know I don't plan on dropping $900 on a new TV any  
time soon.
