First thing I'd check is if the DL recording plays back OK in the drive
that recorded it, if it doesn't then the recording is almost certainly bad.

As you alluded, not all standalone DVD players seem to handle recorded
DL disks in the same way, and DL seems (at least to me) to be more
sensitive to media than single-layer ones.

Back to your original question, I usually take the Myth recording and
use ProjectX and the command line tools to burn it, certainly not as
elegant or as simple, but I've found I get recorded disks that work in a
lot more different players, both SL and DL.
