(as another UK user) - I find that Mythweb's channel management page very
helpful for doing the XMLTV / channel match up manually.  You can copy/paste
the XMLTV IDs to the channels, do a renumber of the channel numbers, and
delete the duplicate channels all from the html interface.  It's still the
best part of an hour's work - but not all afternoon anymore.

I look forward to the 'new' XMLTV solution though!
