I'll chime in here, but it is in no way to encourage to do something illegal...
Virgin Media is a standard DVB-C network, it has it's oddities but
nothing that far from the spec. The encryption method is called Nagra,
CAMs are available for it BUT NTL cards are locked to the CAM serial
number in your STB, and the only way you could get it to talk to the
CAM is via "unlocking" the card, which is tampering with NTL property
(they own the card).
If you ignore the encryption and try to view FTA stuff over DVB-C, the
only channels you get are the standard (BBC 1/2, ITV, 4, Five), but in
most areas these are available via analogue down the line anyway.
So, is it possible? Yes, Is it worth it? No. By far the easiest way to
record pay TV channels is via a NTL STB and s-video out (as described
earlier), and a PVR350 or family for analouge FTA, but then again your
in breach of T&Cs (connecting non authorised hardware to the network).
