More questions to find a reason:
How is this machine different?
can it play any dvds or none?
is libdvdcss the same version on all the frontends?

are you able to play the disk using vlc or mplayer?
is the region correct?
some newer drives are using firmware that strictly enforces regions,
what is the make/model/firmware of the drive?
