Yeah - that makes sense since it can control the box from the
upstairs bedroom while the box is in the basement.
Remote is a Motorola SRC-200a (also have a 300a - pretty much the
same beast)
Gateway is some thing made by Next Level - N3 residential gateway.
It appears as if there is a way to work with the gateway via IR if
the computer is in the same room as the gateway from reading these:

Of course then I have my mythtv box in the #@#$ basement. If I do
this I could probably use a coax notch filter + modulator to send
the output of mythtv to all streams on channel 77 or something - but
then I'm left with finding a way to send the computer in the basement
signals to control myth's frontend.
