I think sound damping materials inside cases mainly helps with fan 
noise, in fact. It damps the vibrations transferred from the fan to the 
chassis and reduces reflection of the high frequencies that come from 
fan motors. If you can reduce fan noise by other means, I've read that 
this is the route to take first. I have a P150 with some deadening 
material built in, and it didn't help at all with HD noise; I can't tell 
if it helps for the rest of the case, and it may also be lower quality 
than what you can buy separately.
