That actually looks OK. If you look at the testfile.mpg which is
actually an xml file you should see the file info like what streams are
included etc.

Now I've got my brain into gear I think I see what  the problem is :-)

How exactly are you running mythtranscode? You do need to add either
--mpeg2 for a lossless transcode or use the --profile parameter if you
want to transcode the file and --output to tell mythtranscode where to
save the final file.
