[mythtv-users] Idea for possible workaround to stop bogus EDID data

I have a Olevia LT26HVE LCD TV, that I believe is providing
bogus EDID
information to my video card (xdpyinfo reports the screen size
as
40x30mm: wrong size, wrong aspect ratio).

Assuming that the LT26HVE is dumping bogus EDID, how crazy would
it be
to break off pins 6 and 7 on my DVI cable?

According to
http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connector_Digital_Visual_Interface_DVI_Bus.html
pins 6 and 7 are  DDC Clock [SCL] and DDC Data [SDA],
respectively. I
believe EDID information is transmitted on the DDC.

Does anybody know what else is transmitted on the DDC?

Would that stop the bogus EDID? Would my TV freak out? Would my
computer catch fire?

Has anyone else tried it? I'm happy to sacrifice a DVI cable,
but not
happy to sacrifice a computer or LCD TV.

Just how crazy is this idea?

How about just using an option within your xorg.conf which ignores the EDID 
data from the monitor? I forget what it's called but I know I have read 
about it.
