Good point, but I ran the script as the mythtv user, which is the same 
user that owns /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt.

Not true. Mirroring saves you from hardware failure in one drive. It 
doesn't save you from software or human error. A failed upgrade could 
theoretically trash your database. Having historical archives is good 
insurance against that.

That would be true if I didn't do what I do.. I split the mirror before I
upgrade. That way if something does get screwed up during the upgrade I have
the other copy to work from.
See, when I upgrade its not just myth that I upgrade, I upgrade my entire
system as well. Having a complete drive copy to restore is great.
