Nice detective work.  I haven't been posting enough "delete all"
replies, lately, it seems.  Glad you dug one of my old ones out and it
worked for you.  :)

Basically, though, if your input connections configuration is broken,
it's very likely that you won't see the breakage through the UI (and you
don't want to dig into the DB directly).  So, "Delete all" is often a
magic cure--but /only/ if everything goes exactly right during the
re-configuration step.  I'd guess that the first time after your delete
all something "broke" while you were reconfiguring.  The second time
through (thanks to all the practice you'd gotten) everything worked for you.
