Subject: [mythtv-users] warnings and recommendations on my new mythtv box
Sorry if this is a repost, I'm not sure the first one was sent properly.
This will be my first MythTV build and I am pretty excited about it. I have
been reading around and looking at various hardware to suit my needs. I've
put together a list at newegg and was hoping I could share with the list for
comments and warnings about any hardware issues I'll run into.
I am in a university residence where they have analog cable to all of the
apartments, so I expect that an analog tuner will last me until I am out of
here (~4 years), at which point I plan on upgrading to an ATSC/QAM tuner
card. The rest of the box will be built with hopes of an HD box in mind.

The video card is cheap, fanless and I have heard that the 7300LE chip will
be capable of producing 1080p when the time comes to need it, but if not,
that can be upgraded in the future as well. I have a Memorex DVD burner
already that I plan on using. The CPU I am looking at will be a Core 2 Duo
Thanks for any input.

Everything looks good, except the motherboard. Try to get one with digital
out as in my past experience, I've never seen a motherboard with built in
sound that doesn't make funny backround noise unless I was using the digital
port. That said, I also have the same 7300 video card. Keep in mind that the
heat sink is so big that it will take up the slot to the left. Luckely, in
that motherboard you have there, that slot is not a pci slot, so you won't
lose a tuner pci slot, but you will lose that slot.
I have an extra tv tuner (the same hauppague pvr-500) because I can't use
that slot in my board. Let me know if you want it, I'll let it go for $100.
Also, you can probably overclock your core 2 duo. I have a 4300 core 2 duo
(1.8ghz), and it is clocked up to 2.4ghz and I've never had a problem with
heat or stability. I just changed my frontside bus from 800mhz up to 1066
and that was it.
