Sounds a lot like broken Video Sources/Input Connections/Channels
configuration.  I'd really recommend starting with
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/264034#264034 . 
Follow the instructions for deleting the video sources (no need to
delete capture cards).
