Sent to the list so that others may benefit --

My combined fe/be froze today at 8:28AM (as shown on the
MythWelcome screen it was sitting at, along with an interesting
horizontal rip on screen.) When I rebooted, things went badly,
with my root partition emitting the "attempt to access beyond
end of device" message.

Rebooted with the kernel parameter init=/bin/sh, ran fsck on
the root partition. It claimed everything was fine. Ran fsck -c
to check for bad blocks. Emitted the error message again.
Ran fsck -f to force a check, and this time errors were found
and corrected. One more fsck for good measure, and a reboot;
everything appears to be fine.
