One problem is that there is no reason most people's (and company's)
computers can't continue to perform for many many years.

The vendors want to continue to sell hardware and software at the rates
they have historically enjoyed for the last 2 decades.

Hence, absent a new application that actually requires more computer
power than people now have, the only solution they can see is forced
obsolescence.

I call it theft.
