I wouldn't say never.  My show dir is NFS-mounted with hard on the slave
server.  But my media dirs (mythvideo, mythmusic, and mythgallery) are
mounted read-only and soft.  I don't want the frontend hanging on those.
And since they're readonly, there's no risk of data loss...
