Yes, it captures analog video so they is no encryption.

to summarize this device:

1.  Captures Component Analog HD video via a STB.
2.  Encodes it in H.264, 1080i
3.  Send to computer over USB port
4.  Computer saves the file.

There is also an IR blaster that is used the change channels of the STB.
This is no different than the PVR-150 IR blaster, just connected via USB.

Linux support:  Hauppauge has said it will be supported in linux.  There has
been some sample video released and playing in Linux.  As of now there is no
driver that can be installed so its still in the air (as far as will the
driver be community developed or released by Hauppauge.)

THATS IT!  no storage or any other crazy idea like that.  JUST AN ENCODER!
