[mythtv-users] does 0.21 frontend require ping to succeed?

I've been running MythTV for quite awhile on version 0.20 (mythbuntu 7.1)

I upgraded to 0.21 recently and it's still working great.

however, I occasionally connect from a front end that is inside a
virtual machine (VirtualBox.)

The networking in the virtual machine uses a virtual network interface
that uses NAT and thus it can't ping ...

This wasn't a problem in 0.20... but now with 0.21,  the front end
complains at startup that it "Cannot find (ping) database host on the
network" and it asks me for the configuration information again
without letting me get past that stage...  Is there any way to just
make the front end try and connect without pinging first?
