I, too, took the time to get XvMC working on my 7300. I was able to follow
the directions in the wiki, and after using envy my CPU usage decoding ATSC
HD is now officially in the cellar! (...that's a *good* thing. :) Also
lets me know XvMC really *is* working!)
However, the OSD is in greyscale. I tried adding
Section "Device"
...
Option "UseEvents" "true"
Option "XvmcUsesTextures" "false" (necessary for color Chromakey OSD)
Option "NVAGP" "1" (some users report 2 works better, may not be
applicable to newer driver versions)
EndSection
to the xorg.conf and restarting X... no effect.
I tried switching from xvmc-blit to xvmc-opengl, no effect. Though looking
at the frontend log, I'm not surprised:
2008-04-15 17:51:53.115 VideoOutputXv: XvMC Adaptor Name: 'NV17 Video
Texture'
2008-04-15 17:54:15.534 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'xvmc-opengl'
not available.
2008-04-15 17:54:18.342 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'xvmc-opengl'
not available.
codec 'MPEG2 IDCT' makes 'xvmc-blit,' available,
using 'xvmc-blit' instead.
I tried switching from chromakey to opengl for the OSD renderer, no effect.
(But that's not really surprising, since xvmc-opengl isn't available,
switching the OSD renderer shouldn't do anything.)
And yes, in the frontend logs, I get complaints about chroma keying being
unavailable:
2008-04-15 17:55:09.079 VideoOutputXv: Ack! Disabling ChromaKey OSD
We can't use ChromaKey OSD if chromakeying is not
supported!
So it appears as though the tradeoff is a B&W OSD with XvMC, or doing
without XvMC alltogether. And XvMC-openGL appears to be a non-starter.
