Hopefully Mythbuntu is configured to generate a backend log?  I'd have
a look in there and see if you can see anything interesting.

I'd also revisit mythtv-setup for the backend configuration and check
the settings.  Particularly the 'Capture Card', 'Video Sources' and
'Input Connections' screens.  It's easy to miss something when you're
doing things for the first time.
