I recall another Fedora user that got his sound working by uninstalling
Pulse Audio and removing the the two config files for alsa. Use
ALSA:default or ALSA: spdif as the devices as appropriate.
The default configuration of ALSA that is used when the config files are
missing seems to work better than any configuration in any wiki you will
find, in my experience.
Also, check STEREO in Myth, not 5.1 (5.1 is broken and will just turn
off your sound if you check it -- you will still get 5.1 with stereo
checked).
