Can someone please explain the difference between soft and hard padding,
and how to set these up, as I always get confused on these discussions! I
gather that one is set in the individual recording, and the other in the
setup screens somewhere, but a brief clarification would be much
appreciated!

I can see no reason why Myth can't record back to back programs on the
same DVB-T channel on the same virtual tuner (or even on 2 separate
channels on the same MUX), but it always uses 2 separate virtual tuners,
thus restricting the number of programs that can be recorded at that time.
