Dav,

With a HD5500 and a hardware issue (PCI buses are flakey), I was getting that
behavior. Check dmesg, I was getting a "crash" internally to the HD5500 card
that I believe resulted in its internal hardware locking up.

I had to move some stuff around if I used certain motherboard sata ports that
appeared to starve the PCI slots of bandwidth, that resulted in the HD5500
locking, it also resulted in the HD5500 appearing to have a crappy signal (I
believe it was actually just losing data from teh BW issues), and this resulted
in the normal mpeg issues you get when data is being lost.

I was also getting errors every so often from my PVR150 cards but those did not
appear to lock up as bad as the HD5500 was.

If you replaced the MB and/or added disks I would check dmesg and see if it
shows any issues, my problem started after I rearranged my sata ports to the
faster build-in MB ones, and would actually result in the machine crashing about
1x per month, and also would result in repeated crashes when it was doing a raid
rebuild after the original crash (MTBF <5 minutes after the first crash).

I had to stop using the faster build-in ports as they caused serious issues.

The messages I got started out like this:

cx88[0]: mpeg risc op code error

And all recording on that card failed with 0 size after that.

                                Roger
